Tournament Rules

1. Players on each team must work for the company they play for or be a member of a company within the industry. A player whose spouse or parent works for the company is classified as member of the company. All players must be 18 years of age and older in order to play. Players on one team can only play with their team and cannot play on another team either in tournament or playoff's. Teams caught will automatically lose that game and the opposition will be awarded the win. I will allow summer students that have signed of employment for that upcoming summer session.

2. The games will consist of 2 x 18 stop time periods. If in the last 5 minutes of the second period of the game one team is up by 5 or more goals, the last 5 minutes of that period will be played in straight run time. You can change on whistles this year - a change from last year. All games will start on time, any team not ready to play on time will start with 6 skaters if no goalie is on the bench.

3. Three minor penalties in one game will constitute ejection from the game.

4. No slap shots. Slap shots are considered any shot where the back swing exceeds the height of the waist. An infraction will be whistled down and a face-off will take place in the offending teams end (like an icing). Body checks are considered when a person makes no attempt to play the puck and takes the body. An infraction will result in a 2 minute penalty.

5. All minor penalties are 2 minutes in duration.

6. Icings- once puck has crossed red line the play is dead.

7. There is no centre line.

8. FIGHTING IS PROHIBITED and any player taking part in such an event will be immediately ejected from the game and face automatic suspension from the rest of the tournament.

9. Any deliberate attempt to injure another player(s) will result in the offending player being immediately ejected from the game and automatic suspension from the rest of the tournament.

10. The rankings of each team are based on most points(3 for a W, 2 for a S.O.Win 1 for a S.O.Loss. 0 for an Lose). In the case of any tied teams, tiebreakers will be broken by: goals for & (plus) goals against divided by goals for the team with the highest % is the winner. Eg: 11 gf and 2 ga = 13 (11/13) = .846% ( winner) and a team with 5 gf & 3 ga = .625% regardless if the other team has the same record and you won the head to head regulation game it goes by % period! In Rec 2 Division that this rules applies that if the wild card team and the 1st overall team are from the same pool then the 1st place will play the 3rd place and the 2nd place overall will play the Wildcard team.

11. Ties will be NOT allowed during round robin play but shootouts will determine the winners of tied games in the tourney. Shootouts will consist of 3 shooters chosen from each team, and the team that finishes with the most goals after the round is the winner. If the round is finished tied, it becomes a sudden death/1 shooter per team round until the tie is broken. New shooters will take over then. The puck is considered "dead" after one initial shot from the shooter of if forward motion stops at any time. The team that scores the last goal of that game will shoot first in the overtime shoot out!

12. Playoffs. Team with the better record will be home team and will have the choice of dark or white jersey. In case of a playoff tie game teams will play 3 on 3 and no changing on whistles must be during the play of the game and no icing's will be called. In case of a minor penalty teams will play 4 on 3 and if there is 2 penalties on the same team it will go to a 5 on 3 and when the 4 player is set to come back on the ice the opposing team will play 4 on 3 until the second penaltied player is set to return then the other team removes a player and reverts back to 3 on 3. The teams will play 3 on 3 for 3 minutes and if no winner then a 3 player shootout and no repeat shooters until game is won.

13. Games will start at exactly the times noted on the schedule or as close too, any team that does not have goaltender present at the start of the game will start with 6 skaters and play that way until a goaltender is ready and shall not enter the game until the first whistle blows and allows the goalie to enter the game. If you can collect another goalie in the mean time go with that goalie until your goalie is ready. Teams that have ended their game will have 25 mins to vacate that room, allows 5 mins to clean up and then the other team must be ready to move in and be ready 5 mins before they start their scheduled game.

14. Have fun!! Brief trophy presentations and picture taking of the winners will occur shortly not responsible or after each championship game. Team captains are responsible for the division trophy until the following Grain Challenge tournament. Please remember to bring the trophy back!
